Knockenhooley Cottage was built in the late 1800´s-early 1900´s by the local stone mason Seonaidhe Ruirardh John McLeod.
Later in life he became a Lay preacher in Christianity who although not ordained clergy, are authorized to deliver sermons and lead worship services. They often use specified readings for their sermons, which may not always relate to contemporary issues. He was remembered not only for his stature within the community but also his size being 6ft 7"!
He built several properties on Skye one other to note being Sconser Lodge which was approximately 5 miles (as the crow flies) which he would walk every day!
He delivered sermons all over the local area and would often row a boat from Heast across the water to Ord & Drumfearn.
His grandson who is in his 80`s still just a few crofts along from us.

We first visited Isle of Skye in 2000 its been a place we have always wanted to return, never did we think by 2022 we would own a cottage there!
We have been in business together since 2002 starting off by building a multi-award winning hair salon group. More recently we also started a very successful dog kennel business before deciding to sell up and travel Europe in a motorhome, this we have been doing for the past 2yrs albeit we felt we still had something we needed to do....that something was return to Skye.
Having previously said we have travelled all over Europe and can honestly say there is no more scenic place that Skye! After a whistle stop visit in September (Pic above) we purchased Knockenhooley in late December 2021 and are very excited to offer the use of our cottage to visitors to the Isle of Skye which can be booked through Airbnb. We have tried to keep the character of the cottage as well as adding some modern finishing touches. Work will be ongoing over the next few years as there is lots we want to change so keep checking back here for updates.
As of July 2023 we have built our own separate living accommodation next to the cottage thus meaning we now do all our own cleaning of Knockenhooley and gardening.
We are here to help all our guests as much or as little as they wish.
Thanks for reading our story, we hope that if you visit Skye you have a fantastic stay at Knockenhooley! Jason & Elizabeth
